About Pettypool College
Based in Sandiway Cheshire, Petty Pool is a charity set up in May 1981, with operational activities divided between Petty Pool College, which provides education and training for young people with learning disabilities, and Petty Pool Outdoor Centre, providing personal development through adventurous activities.
We were approached by the college to develop a new website for them. Our aim was to go for a clean, modern, easy to navigate website. The site promotes the college for young adults with learning disabilities whilst the outdoor centre section of the site promotes the commercial side of the organisation.
The Brief
- Ensure the site is easy to navigate with a mega menu that doesn’t exceed 2 tiers
- Commission photography and use throughout the site
- Use image cards as a secondary navigation to ensure usability for students with learning difficulties
- Build in a student portal for homework & documents
- Ensure key areas have contact forms to make workflow more efficient
- Incorporate jobs portal, events and news feeds whilst linking into key social media channels
- Ensure the site reflects the ethos of Petty Pool College
- Write all of the content for the 65 page site
- Design of downloadable PDF leaflets, info sheets and a 32 page prospectus
- Manage and maintain the site going forwards
Our Approach
At the time of the build, the College did not have a website other than a small landing page so we had to establish a complete plan of action and content gathering. We spent time on-site consulting different business areas and put together a page plan and collate all content in an organised way.
We established our own team for this project with Sarah working on copywriting and content gathering, Simon working on digital design and page layout, Ian for photography and Andy who worked on website build and project management.
We worked on-site for a couple of days per week whilst doing the rest of the work remotely with weekly catch up meetings.
The Results
We were pleased to deliver this project on time and on budget. Since its launch, the website has become a vital part of their business with different members of staff taking care of various areas, such as job vacancies or news and events. We had photography and videography taken specifically for this site and we feel it really brings the College to life and emphasises what Petty Pool is all about, the Students.
The Pettypool website was one of the largest projects we’ve done to date due to the sheer amount of co-ordination it required to bring it all together. The year it was launched, the Pettypool website was a Finalist at the Northern Marketing Awards.
